Towards the end of 2008, we decided to discontinue, for the time being, both the pig and the chicken project. Our chickens were doing very well, but a new chicken farm opened in Limulunga, with over 800 chickens and a much larger budget – we could not compete. We sold off most of our chickens, and kept two to enjoy over Christmas.
Our pigs did too well – they bred very quickly, but the price of pig feed also went up over the course of the year, and it just became too expensive for us to feed them, so we sold our pigs too. We've learnt a lot from these experiences, and are still determined to raise some of our own income – watch this space, we have lots of plans.
